A former Wicklow town clerk, Frank O’Toole has been found guilty of corruption and handed an 18 month suspended sentence and fined € 10,000 at Wicklow Circuit Court.

65 year old Frank O’Toole was convicted last December of furnishing a letter to Patrick O’Toole, a Wicklow town-based solicitor and property developer, asserting that development levies of €64,840 had been paid. This however was not the case.

The letter sent relation to the construction of a commercial and residential development in Wicklow town. The development located at the Glebe would consist of 10 apartments and retail space with a value of €2.75 million.

Counsel for Mr. O’Toole stressed that he had not received any benefit from issuing the letter. He described how Mr. O’Toole had been “thrown under the bus” when it came to prosecution.
